How to Kill Poison Ivy Without Killing Everything Else (Or Yourself)
In this video I test four alternatives to Roundup for killing poison ivy that also will not kill surrounding surrounding vegetation if used carefully: Bonide Poison Oak & Ivy Killer, BioAdvanced Brush Killer, Ortho WeedClear, and a homemade solution of salt and soap.
Spoiler alert - all these solutions work for killing poison ivy, but some work better than others, which the video demonstrates. All can be purchased through major retailers or on online (except the homemade one). When in doubt, google it.
There are other methods to kill poison ivy beyond these, so please feel free to comment with your favorites.
Always take precautions when handling chemicals or poisonous substances. This video...

Average Guy Builds a Double Fence Gate with Half-Lap Joints - step by step instructions
Просмотров 51 тыс.10 месяцев назад
This video demonstrates how to make a fence gate with step by step instructions including three ways to make half-lap joints using different tools - pull saw, miter saw and circular saw. The gate is over 8 feet wide, making it large enough to drive a truck and trailer through. The gate also uses a wire fence rather than pickets, helping make it light weight by comparison. This video shows how to build a simple and (hopefully) easy fence gate without any digging. Using lightweight pressure-treated lumber and welded wire (or chicken wire), this gate should hold up to moderate use and weather for many years. Step by step instructions on basic construction and some optional bells and whistles. Shopping list: Wood to wood Post Spike - www.lowes.com/pd/Simpson-Strong-...

How to Make a Rain Barrel that Looks Natural in your Yard
Просмотров 20 тыс.2 года назад
I started collecting rain water from my deck roof for a backyard irrigation system with this rain barrel I made from a 50 gallon drum and pressure treated lumber. I'm using a transfer pump to power a sprinkler. The inspiration was to make a homemade whiskey barrel that won't rust. The rain barrel sits in a highly visible part of my yard so I wanted to give it an upgrade over a typical rainwater...
How to Install a Welded Wire Fence the Fast & Easy way with Elevation Changes, No Digging
Просмотров 661 тыс.2 года назад
This is a quick step-by-step tutorial for installing a wire net fence, also called garden wire, garden netting, welded wire, etc. Technically it's not chicken wire but it's similar. This particular fence is 4 feet tall with 4 inch gaps, which meets regulations for fencing in a pool in most municipalities. It also helps keep your dog from chasing critters. The stakes are 5 ft U-posts. This is ju...
Attempting to make a cheap gutter look sexy - opinions may differ
Просмотров 127 тыс.2 года назад
I'm using inexpensive materials to make a modern DIY gutter than will accent my new, minimalist deck roof and solve my drainage problems. There are much easier ways to install a gutter, but that's not really how I do things. I'm going for something unique. And as usual, I'm doing it super cheap. You don't have to tell me I'm crazy for using a garden hose as a downspout either. I well aware of t...
Building a Low-Cost CLEAR Deck Roof
Просмотров 1,2 млн2 года назад
I built a cost-effective roof for my back porch with a modern, minimalist design and it transformed my backyard. It's like a covered pergola except it provides more than just shade. I used transparent, polycarbonate corrugated roofing panels from Tuftex. They allow about 85% of the sunlight through, offer ultraviolet protection, shelter from the weather, especially snow, and are water proof. (T...

If there was a way to come up with a wireless remote portable brush mower you could mow down the poison ivy then another remote unit could spray the area. Maybe have a drone to spray a solution that would keep the ivy from growing back.

A few years ago I wanted to kill some poison ivy along the sides of an inactive rail corridor near where I live. I had read that using a solution to kill the ivy it was best to have the roots of the ivy exposed then spray. So I clipped with clippers a pretty long swath about 15' long. Then a week later went back with two spray bottles with white vinegar, Dawn Dish Soap, and Morton salt in a measured solution. After two weeks I noticed the ivy was dying off.

I have a question please: My dad & I planted trees around the perimeter of his 2 acre property. The trees are almost 40 yrs old now. I would like to use the trees as the "posts" for this type of fencing (to keep our dog in and try to keep it looking as natural as possible). Can i use those u-shaped clips you used on your split rail fence, on the trees?

One small correction. That's not "corrugated" roof panels you put up. Corrugated is the wavy stuff that looks like it belongs on some ugly back yard shed. What you put up is called "twin wall" polycarbonate panels. Also they are available as of this writing at Menards with free ship to store but you have to get them home from there yourself, a real challenge for 12 ft long material.

I get right on poison ivy as soon as I see it. I pull the runners. One man said pull a runner up, cut the end and stick it into a jar of roundup, covered with plastic cling wrap. This should cause the vine to draw in the round up without destroying the land.

Also as i've worked as a carpenter for close to 40 years and noticed you used a level when installing ykur gate hinges I always tilted my hinges out away from tge center as the first thing that wears out in a hinge is the barrell tends to get loose and the gate will drop to the center which could cause them to bind anyway it was a great video

Blake give this one a try, as it has worked very well for me, when a lot of others have failed. The important thing is the active chemical & how it's mixed (concentrate). Find "Diquat dibromide 2.3% along with Fluazifop-p-butyl 1.15%" mixture. Mix 7 oz per gallon of water. The manufacturer isn't important, but the one I use is Spectracide Weed & Grass Killer. This is a non-selective weed killer. Even a light mist carried by the wind will kill any green plant foliage it hits. For $15 or so, it's worth a try. Good luck.

I think I have Sumac which is similar. I am not sure if there is a non irritating variety but I know that it works the same way as poison ivy. DON'T burn poison ivy, if you inhale that smoke you will need an ER visit right away!!! That is because if you are allergic to it you could have your airways inflamed making it hard to breathe. Not only that but even if you survive the itchiness in your throat will be one of the most awful things you can experience!!

if you can find the main vine/base of the plant and cut out about a 6inch section in it…everything above the cut out section will die very quickly and will not grow back. I had a huge growth of poison ivy growing up my chimney of my house and another bunch growing up into a dogwood tree…this method was the easiest way to permanently get rid of it.

Gosh, they all looked pretty ineffective….or….disappointing. Please, when you spray chemicals - wear gloves on that spray hand. Best of luck getting ahead of these monsters. 👍🏻

Common cooking vinegar has 5% acidity, but some of the big-box hardware-store replacements might carry 30% vinegar, which works much better sprayed on some cursed-leaves. But if PI loves an acidic soil, this might mot be helpful, on second thought. Back to the beakers and test tubes. (Harumph.)

Regardless of your choice of spray, add some dye. It won't do anything by itself, but it will show you where you have and haven't sprayed. Farm and feed stores have it economically. A little goes a long way.

Poison Ivy spreads by the roots under and above the ground. if you don't clear it out by the roots, it will eventually take over everything because it spreads like Kudzu. If you do pull it out by the roots, whatever you do, DO NOT BURN IT! The smoke will kill you!

*Quick Tips:* None of the products will work as claimed without lots of direct sun exposure after treatment. Anything shaded is not going to react. Also, there is nothing that will kill poison ivy without killing everything else around it. And, if you use enough product to kill the roots of the ivy, you'll also kill the trees around it. Just because the leaves wilt doesn't mean the ivy's dying. Good Lock.

Get yourself a propane tank and a torch with about 10-15’ hose. You have fairly flat land so strap your tank to a dolly. You don’t burn the ivy, you scorch it. The cells in the leaves burst and the plant dies. Recommend you do this after a rain. It will take a week to se results
